In this course you will focus on advanced intermediate speaking skills that will help you be more successful in communication with native English speakers. Over the course of the session, you will use authentic academic texts to develop your critical thinking, vocabulary and speaking skills. There is an integration of listening tasks in this course.

500 West Grammar builds upon student knowledge by expanding and going into more detail in the use and understanding of adverbial forms, conditionals, relative clauses and the passive voice. The course signals a transition from elementary to more intermediate level examination of these concepts. Since these forms are widely used to form more complex statements, it is important for students to be exposed to, become familiar with, and use the targeted language.

In this course, students will focus on learning new reading skills and reviewing previous reading skills to help them further develop their vocabulary, reading fluency, and reading skills. Over the course session, students will use authentic academic text to develop their critical thinking, vocabulary, and reading skills. There is an integration of intensive and extensive reading models.

The goal of 500 Writing Class is the mastery of the paragraph and the further development of essay writing competency introduced in previous levels. Specifically, students will be able to write essays using narrative and persuasive rhetorical forms. By the end of the session, students will be able to write an essay directed toward an academic audience on an assigned topic.
