In this course you will focus on low intermediate speaking skills that will help you be more successful in communication with native English speakers. Over the course of the session, you will use authentic academic texts to develop your critical thinking, vocabulary and speaking skills. There is an integration of listening tasks in this course.
In this course, students will be introduced to a number of grammatical structures focused mainly on good sentence structure. They will learn to use comparisons, to differentiate and use gerunds and infinities in the subject and object position, to use adjective clauses to describe people and things, to use noun clauses including reported speech in the object position, and to use conditionals and unreal tenses to express causes and effect relationships. Students will be given the opportunity to practice and use these structures in both written and spoken discourse
In this course, students will focus on learning new reading skills and review previous reading skills to help them further develop their vocabulary, reading fluency, and reading skills. Over the course session, students will use authentic academic text to develop their critical thinking, vocabulary, and reading skills. There is an integration of intensive and extensive reading models. Thus, the instructor must cover the assigned units in the textbook and direct a novel reading program.
In this course, students will focus on elementary writing skills that will enable them to write academic paragraphs. Over the course of the session, they will practice brainstorming, organizing ideas into an outline, and writing time order, narration and cause-effect paragraphs. They will further develop their knowledge of sentence structure, punctuation, and capitalization.
