In this course you will focus on low intermediate speaking skills that will help you be more successful in communication with native English speakers. Over the course of the session, you will use authentic academic texts to develop your critical thinking, vocabulary and speaking skills. There is an integration of listening tasks in this course.
400 Grammar builds upon student knowledge concerning the twelve active verb tenses. The course signals a transition from elementary to more intermediate level examination of all twelve tenses in the active voice. Students should become comfortable using all the tenses in the affirmative, negative and interrogative forms. Students will be given the opportunity to practice and use these structures in both written and spoken discourse.
In this course, students will focus on learning new reading skills and review previous reading skills to help them further develop their vocabulary, reading fluency, and reading skills. Over the course session, students will use readings form the text to develop their critical thinking, vocabulary, and reading skills. There is an integration of intensive and extensive reading models. Thus, the instructor must cover the assigned units in the textbook and direct a novel reading program.
In this course, students will focus on developing writing skills that will enable them to write academic paragraphs and then essays. Over the course of the session, they will practice brainstorming, organizing ideas into an outline, and writing a well-organized paragraph, compare / contrast essay and classification essay. Students will also further develop their knowledge of sentence structure, punctuation, and capitalization.
